Mel and John’s wedding day was a heartfelt celebration at Mattie’s at Green Pastures rooted in intention, connection, and timeless romance. From meaningful locations to thoughtfully chosen details, every part of their day reflected who they are. It was the kind of wedding that felt calm, deeply personal, and full of quiet joy from start to finish.
A Love Story Written in Stone
Mel and John’s story began at Texas Tech, where she was in grad school and he was working on his PhD. Both studied geology. Naturally, they fell in love over shared curiosity and wonder. Their engagement session also reflected that beautifully. Every time we passed a building made of natural stone, they paused. They studied texture and discussed origin, all while admiring the design. It was thoughtful, adorable, and endlessly entertaining!
A Perfect Austin Weekend Begins
Their wedding celebration started with a rehearsal dinner at Lonesome Dove in downtown Austin. It was the perfect choice. Located in the heart of the city, the restaurant offers some of the most incredible Texan cuisine. The atmosphere felt warm yet elevated. It set the tone beautifully for the weekend ahead.
An Intimate Ceremony Filled With Meaning
Mel and John chose to share a first look in the chapel at Hyde Park Presbyterian Church, where they wed. It was tender and unguarded. A quiet moment just for them. Soon after, they exchanged vows surrounded by their closest family and friends. The ceremony felt deeply personal and full of reverence. There was a calm presence in the space. Every word felt intentional.
As they exited with bubbles filling the air. Laughter and joy followed close behind. It was joyful and lighthearted, marking the beginning of the celebration to come.
Cozy Elegance at Mattie’s at Green Pastures
The reception took place at the Annex at Mattie’s at Green Pastures, a longtime Austin venue known for its warmth, charm, and incredible hospitality. Mel and John intentionally chose this space for its cozy, intimate feel, creating an environment where guests could truly connect and linger throughout the evening. While large celebrations can be wonderful, there is something especially meaningful about a couple who knows exactly who they want beside them and selects a space that encourages conversation, closeness, and unhurried moments.
I loved photographing at the Annex, as it is perfectly suited for smaller gatherings and allows every interaction to feel personal and genuine. The intimacy of the space made each moment feel more immersive, from shared laughter at the tables to full conversations tucked into the evening, creating an atmosphere that felt both elegant and deeply welcoming.
Candlelight, Conversation, and Connection
As the evening settled in, the space at Mattie’s glowed with soft candlelight, a detail that was especially important to Mel. The gentle warmth immediately shifted the energy of the night, creating an atmosphere that felt romantic, calm, and incredibly inviting. Guests lingered comfortably, moving from conversation to conversation, never feeling rushed and never needing to leave the moment behind.
Choosing a favorite part feels impossible. Truly. Every moment was a joy to photograph. Mel and John are the kind of couple that make you feel instantly at ease. Sweet. Genuine. Effortlessly kind. Cheers to the Brothertons!!
